My last post spoke of 1-minute swing sets back on the 21rst. With the exception of a 5 mile trail run over at the park on the 24th, I haven't done anything else! Kind of backing off, both on purpose and not on purpose but just due to my schedule and/or the blasted heat wave that we've had this year.
It kind of started with a bad day I had at work last week Monday. I was called "a murderer" by a patient's family member and I kind of went into my own little pity party for a few days. I've never, in the 23 years of doing this job, been called that-and to be honest, it stung. I kind of wish she would have just kicked my ass instead. Amazing how strong words can be. Anyways, that issue is over and with the help of friends, I'm fine. That experience is one that I won't forget, but I also won't let it run my life!
Wednesday morning was my KB class which we nailed just before the skies opened up and the rains came hard and fast! I conducted the class without even picking up a bell-not my usual way of doing things, but the lack of sleep and just complete exhaustion kept me from doing anything any other way. Now that I'm rested and back on track with things, it's all good.
Friday was back to work and being extremely short staffed, it went really fast. Not much time for anything but slinging out the useless Albuterol treatments to patients who don't give a rats ass about anything in their life. We're starting a brand new charting system soon and all staff are at their wits end. Why they worry about something that they have no control over is amazing. I could easily get all worked up over it, but why? What a waste of energy-it's gonna happen, it's gonna suck at first, it's gonna be confusing, it's gonna take us farther away from our patients, etc.....but it's just change. Not worth the energy making it more than what it is...
Yesterday was a fantastic day! I started the day with some snatching. Went like this....
All done with the 12kg
10L/10R x 5 rounds=100 reps.
Took 30 seconds rest between rounds
15L/15R x 4 rounds=120 reps
Took 30 seconds rest between rounds
20L/20R x 3 sets=120 reps
Took 1 minute rest between rounds
25L/25R x 2 sets=100 rounds
Took 1 minute rest between rounds
I kind of planned on doing one more set consisting of 50L/50R with only 1 hand change. This is a hard task, but once I set my mind to something, no matter what, I'm going through with it! So....rested x 5 minutes and then it was off....
50L/50R x 1 set=100 reps! 1 hand change
Total reps=540 snatches.
Woo-hoo, that was hardcore and it got me pretty stoked.
Next up in the afternoon was to grab a quick lunch and then head on up (1.5hr drive) to Green Bay for the 5K!
Training camp for the Packers has just started and this is a 5K run/walk to kick things off. We in Green Bay love anything to do with football. There was to be some retired players there as well, I, for the record did not see any. Jeff and I met my girlfriend and away we went. Jeff and JoAnn were doing the walk part while I did the run. We got up there just past 3pm and headed to the stadium where the registration was to pick up bibs and goodies.
Here's my stuff......
After watching the players come out, we went inside to Curly's Pub and grab some food before the race. Here's Jeff and I waiting for our food to come....
There was a wedding there at the same time, so place was packed. Always something going on at Lambeau Field!
Here's JoAnn and I waiting to head onto Lombardi Avenue to get started. Jeff
and JoAnn were in wave 6-walkers and I was in wave 4. So we hung out for awhile then went our seperate ways.
On our way up to Green Bay we stopped at an outlet mall and I found the absolute perfect shirt to wear for the run. I've been called "Forrest" for quite some time since I started running and to get this shirt was funny as hell. I can't believe how many compliments and comments I got along the way during the run!
This next pic I took while standing in my "wave" and the you can see the start gate way in the distance. I took this just as the "horn" blew......
This next pic I took approximately 7-8 minutes later! I'm getting there!
The run was off, I went under the starting gate roughly 10 minutes after the horn blew! What a great crowd! And it was only a 5K! We had over 6,000 runners/walkers and that's great since the marathon draws between 10 and 12,000! The weather was beautiful. Mid 80's with NO humidity! My mitral valve was happy as can be! At just before mile marker 2, I took this shot of what was coming....Lambeau Field!
It's hard to see from this shot, but the large screen was showing the runners/walkers inside the stadium! There is still construction going on, hence the cranes, and this whole section of the stadium is new!
This pic is heading into the tunnel.....getting excited!
I totally would have a much better finishing time if I laid off the picture taking! Since my usual "sag-wagon/photographer" was doing the event, I had no choice but to document myself!
Here's a pic from inside the tunnel coming to the opening of the field......
I took this one of myself on the jumbo screen! If you look way to the right of the big screen, you'll see
Here's the end of my "lap" around the field and then it's off to the finish line to then wait for the hubs and friend! The family and friends of those in the race were allowed in a section to cheer us on as we passed by. It was weird not to try and find Jeff in the crowd so he could take one his famous photos of some body part of mine! Either way, I "high-fived" a bunch of people as I ran past them on my way out!
Here's a picture of the finish line-I took this after I ran through and sucked about 3 bottles of water!
Here comes Jeff and JoAnn through the gate......this is a great pic!
Here's JoAnn and I at the end celebrating a great time!
Here we are inside the stadium........
Here's Jeff and I inside the stadium.......
What a fun day! Everything went perfect. Timing of the drive. Just enough time to get a good meal and not feel too full to run. Perfect weather. Perfect crowd. Seeing Clay Matthews! Great run. Can't wait till the Marathon next year-I'm sure it will run through the stadium again. I'm pretty sure this was the only year they had to cancel that part of the race. Will wait to see what they decide before signing up for the race next May! This was only the 3rd year they've done this 5K to kick off training camp and what a great event it is. Well organized!
Congrats to all who raced this past weekend!

You should have gotten a pic of Jeff's shoelace as he finished in exchange for all your photos :)
ReplyDeleteHow fun! And great turn out--big 5k. Sucks about the patients family (I mean really???). Maybe they didn't intend to be so harsh?
